Why NBA Star Lamar Odom Was Asked to Leave His LA Home

After reportedly failing to pay rent for a number of months, two-time NBA champion and ex-Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom has been told to leave a residence in Studio City, Los Angeles County.

The NBA star allegedly made $114 million during his 14-year career in the NBA and is now being sued by Executive Recovery Group, Inc., the owner of the house, for allegedly not paying $45,000 in unpaid rent.

According to reports, Odom failed to respond to the first lawsuit, leading the court to rule in the landlord's favor. A judge legally mandated that he surrender ownership of the house and quit on April 28.

Rental lawsuit against Lamar Odom. Is the NBA icon broke?

According to reports, Odom made a monthly verbal rental agreement with the business in December 2023, agreeing to pay $15,000 in rent each month. He neglected to pay between January 1 and March 31, according to the lawsuit. As a result, Executive Recovery Group initiated litigation, seeking compensation for legal expenses as well as other damages calculated using the fair rental worth of $500 per day.

It's worth noting that on March 11, Odom was given a three-day ultimatum to either pay or leave the premises. The letter described how the notice was placed on the house in person. On March 12, when no one at the house was deemed to be "of suitable age or discretion," a copy of the notice was sent to him via mail.

The "Montare on the Hill," a residential mental health treatment facility operated by Montare Behavioral Health, is curiously connected to the home. According to the lawsuit, Odom was instructed to send rent payments to "Montage Recovery CA LLC c/o Elliott Liebhard."

Since his near-fatal overdose at a Nevada brothel in 2015, Odom has apparently remained sober. He also just launched a meme coin called $ODOM, which he claims is "the world's first meme coin with a mission to combat drug abuse."

Odom, who was selected fourth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft, had a distinguished career with the Clippers, Lakers, Heat, and Mavericks, but the majority of it was spent in Los Angeles with Kobe Bryant.
