Munich Calling: Suruchi Aims to Defend Her Gold

Munich Calling: Suruchi Aims to Defend Her Gold

India, June 5 - Suruchi Phogat is one of the few professional shooters who expresses their technique so simply. The newest 10-meter air pistol star to come out of the nation's ranges is unconcerned about methods like visualization, meditation, or even the flow condition that shooters worry about. She doesn't care about competing against Olympic medalists or other very accomplished athletes. "It's easy. All I do is grab the gun and fire." When asked to describe her method, she replied, "It's not a very difficult sport."

Although one might be tempted to blame her evaluation on a lack of experience at the top level, the data show no evidence of chance or complacency. With three gold medals among the four she won at her first two senior World Cups in Buenos Aires and Lima this April, the 19-year-old will be the one to watch out for when she sets her sights on the Munich World Cup from June 8, highlighting her increasing skill.

I always felt at home shooting. I have never had to work particularly hard to get decent grades. I usually score between 580 and 585 in practice, which is enough to get me into the finals, but in the finals, I occasionally tend to shoot a bit below par, which is one area I am working on and would like to improve in this World Cup.

Before this year's third senior rifle/pistol World Cup, the Indian shooting team spent two weeks honing their abilities at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. Olympic medal winners Swapnil Kusale and Manu Bhaker lead the 23-member team.

In the 10-meter competition, Suruchi will be joined by 19-year-old Asian Games gold medalist Palak Gulia in addition to Bhaker. Following the golden harvest in South America, Suruchi will be anticipated to perform well in Germany, where the level of competition will be higher with reigning Olympic champion Oh Yejin of South Korea competing.

"Although the South American leg wasn't very difficult, practically all of the best shooters will be competing in Munich. Suruchi stated, "It will be an exciting challenge, and as for expectations, I feel 0.01% pressure on match days. My sole attention is on my shooting.

My greatest asset is my ability to avoid overthinking. Even on match days, my mornings are calm and simple. I simply attempt to replicate in practice what I've learned. Who is shooting beside me makes no difference. Everyone is aiming for the same goal, she continued, pointing out that her attitude hasn't changed much since she won the individual competitions (junior, youth, senior) at the National Championships late last year and then went on to succeed at this year's National Games.

Suruchi's modest family in the Sasroli hamlet of Haryana, which is located in the Jhajjar district, which is renowned for its excellent wrestlers, has gained a lot of attention as a result of her two World Cup victories. Suruchi is still a little amazed by all the love she is receiving as the latest shooting star.

We are straightforward folks that reside in a modest home in the countryside. There were several well-known individuals who visited me every day when I got back from South America. I was a bit ashamed since we have nothing opulent to provide our visitors. It's a really humbling experience, she stated.
