The fairytale journey of French wild card Lois Boisson at Roland Garros this year came to an end with second-seeded Coco Gauff making it to her second final at the French Open. In a mere 69 minutes, the American produced a masterclass 6-1, 6-2 victory, setting up a championship game against the world. No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated reigning champion Iga Swiatek in three sets earlier in the evening.

Boisson, who was ranked 361st globally and had missed the chance to compete in the French Open previous year due to a torn left ACL, defeated Jessica Pegula, the third-ranked player in the world, and Mirra Andreeva of Russia in the prior rounds to become the first wild card in the Open Era to advance to the semifinals at the Roland Garros and the third woman in the previous four decades to reach the penultimate round in her Grand Slam debut. However, against Gauff, the 22-year-old appeared dejected.

After breaking back in the second set, Boisson momentarily increased the expectations of the hometown audience. However, Gauff quickly regained control with her fifth break of the match to take a 4-2 lead as she battled for the consistency of the previous rounds. Gauff won the last two games to secure a comfortable victory as Boisson was unable to perform one last act of defying the odds.

"I was thinking my name when you guys were chanting her name," Gauff said during her on-court interview.

"Clearly there's still a lot to be done, but for the time being, I'm going to savor this one before getting ready for the conclusion tomorrow."
