Megan McConnell Shines Bright as WNBA Prospect and TJ McConnell’s Sister

You may be familiar with T.J. McConnell, the relentless guard for the Indiana Pacers, but his younger sister, Megan McConnell, is also leaving her imprint on the wood.
Who is Megan McConnell?
Megan's path to the WNBA wasn't paved with glamour or popular mixtapes. It began in the gyms of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her family name was well-known. Tim McConnell, her father, established a name for himself as one of the most well-known high school coaches in Pennsylvania. Her aunt? Suzie McConnell-Serio—an Olympic gold medalist, WNBA star, and member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame since 2008—is the one and only.
Megan was practically reared by basketball. In that kind of atmosphere, the sport was more of a calling than a choice. However, Megan never relied on her surname. She gained her experience through difficult experiences.
Megan created an undeniable legacy after five outstanding years at Duquesne University. Even though she was only 5'7" tall, she had incredible statistics: 1,795 career points (the second-best in school history), a record-breaking 660 assists, 370 steals, and a staggering 1,079 rebounds. She was the type of player who went above and beyond in every aspect of the game.

Her honors speak volumes. Four triple-doubles. Defensive Player of the Year of the Atlantic 10. Three-time All-Academic Team Pick. Following in the footsteps of Korie Hlede (1998) and Candace Futrell (2004), she also became just the third female basketball player in Duquesne history to be selected to a WNBA squad, which is perhaps the most amazing achievement.
Megan signed a rest-of-season contract with the Phoenix Mercury in June 2025, marking her second time with the squad after making an impression at training camp earlier that year. It was a significant occasion for both her and the McConnell family.
On X, Pittsburgh sportswriter Mike White summed it up nicely:
"The McConnell family narrative continues in another chapter. It never ends. The Indiana Pacers and T.J. McConnell secured a berth in the NBA Finals last night. Megan, T.J.'s sister, joined the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA this morning.
Megan didn't hold back when it came to making her debut. She entered her first official WNBA game against the Minnesota Lynx and made it memorable by scoring three points, providing three assists, and shooting 50% from three off the bench. It seemed like something significant was about to start for a moment.
However, her momentum was interrupted late in the fourth quarter by a knee sprain just as the excitement was starting. Definitely cruel timing. The Mercury's decision to keep her on the roster, however, is a clear indication of their faith in what she has to offer. Because players like Megan don't rely on hype or a good background. They strive for every second on the ground.
Megan McConnell is more than simply "T.J. McConnell's sister." She is a formidable rival, a Duquesne celebrity, and a developing professional with a tenacity that cannot be disregarded. Her introduction may have been brief, but the effect? Undeniable.
