At the recently finished Norway Chess 2025, D Gukesh made history by defeating Magnus Carlsen for the first time in a classical match. The contest was an epic thriller as Carlsen, who was furious with the loss, slammed the table in exasperation. Since then, memes have been created in response to Carlsen's response, which became popular on social media.

Gukesh recently discussed the incident in which Carlsen became emotional and lost his temper while he kept his cool.

When discussing the incident and its memes with Chessbase India, he said, "The memes are really funny. There was a meme with a cat on the table and the cat jumps."

"I couldn't stop laughing for about ten minutes," he said.

Carlsen also appeared shellshocked when he spoke following the defeat. "The issue is that I generally feel good in this tournament, but I just don't enjoy playing anymore," he stated. In the middle of the game, I'm just sitting there thinking that my position is the same as it has been so many times before. "It's simply creeping along."

I know I'm a good player, but it doesn't thrill me. I was pleased with how I played, but toward the conclusion I fell apart and displayed major flaws. Gukesh battles extremely hard,” he said.

Magnus Carlsen successfully defended his title and ultimately won the competition for a record seventh time. With 16 points, he came out on top, followed by Fabiano Caruana in second position (15.5 points). Hikaru Nakamura finished fourth with 14 points, while Gukesh took third with 14.5. Chinese GM Wei Yi (9.5) was at the bottom of the standings, while India No. 1 Arjun Erigaisi finished fifth with 13 points.

Carlsen was also asked to choose his successor during his post-final-round interview, which he answered in an unexpected way. "Nobody exists. Nobody exists right now. The truth is that. It's possible, but not very probable right now, he stated.
