According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the New York Knicks' quest for a replacement for Tom Thibodeau continues as the team is prohibited from speaking to Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, Quin Snyder of the Atlanta Hawks, and Billy Donovan of the Chicago Bulls, a week after being denied a conversation with Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets and Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Even though there was some early enthusiasm between Kidd and the Knicks, it was eventually exposed as a scheme to obtain a long-term deal with Dallas.

Thanks to Chris Finch's leadership, the Wolves have made it to the Western Conference Finals two years in a row. Given this and Finch's remarkable 209-160 (.566) record over four or more years, it's not surprising that the Knicks tried to hire him for the position. Given his outstanding capacity to train defensive squads, hopes that Finch might have utilized this skill to prepare the Knicks for their flaws in the most recent Finals have been dashed.

Udoka's connections to the Knicks date back to 2005, when he played for the team for a year. He also coached the Boston Celtics from 2021 to 2022, guiding them to the Finals. Had he not been subjected to a year-long suspension for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a fellow employee, which was deemed a breach of team policy, Udoka would have continued his joyful stint with the Celtics. Udoka's tenure with the Rockets began after this event, and he led the team to a 41-41 record in his first season and a 52-30 record this season, guiding them to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

Thibodeau departed the Knicks in June of this year after losing to the Indiana Pacers in their first attempt to capture the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000. The hunt for someone to take his place goes on.
