Drama Unfolds at Lord’s: Verreynne Collides with Cummins, Falls, and Is Dismissed After Intense Review

In the World Test Championship final at Lord's, Pat Cummins made history with a stunning bowling performance that gave Australia a 74-run advantage in the first inning. Although Cummins' figures were 6-26, it was a session after lunch on the second day that caused all the havoc, as he single-handedly destroyed four South African batsmen in rapid succession.
However, Cummins' devastation started in a somewhat amusing yet worrying way. Cummins seam ed one in sharply in his second over after lunch, hitting South African wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne in the pads. While attempting to appeal for the LBW, Cummins was still running backward, which caused him to inadvertently collide with Verreynne as the latter started for a single, his eyes also away from the bowler and on the ball.
After the collision, both players went down in a huge pile, and the umpire even reacted while declaring the decision as not-out. However, Cummins was undeterred by the accident and quickly got to his feet, making sure he completed the review before the 15-second DRS clock expired.
Hawkeye later confirmed that it was hitting enough of the leg stump to indicate three reds, making it the correct call. After South Africa had controlled the morning session, it was a wicket that gave Australia back the upper hand.
Cummins after a flurry of wickets following lunch
Cummins would take advantage in the same over, ending South Africa's final batting alliance by getting Marco Jansen out for a duck. For a caught-and-bowled, the game was dramatically swung in Australia's favour by a leading edge.
Cummins still had more to do in the afternoon; a few overs later, he took the established batter David Bedingham with a traditional fast bowler's dismissal, snagging a faint outside edge. Cummins' fifth wicket of the innings gave him just the fourth captain in Lord's history to take a five-fer.
Australia wrapped up the tail quickly after Bedingham was dismissed for 45, with Cummins finishing things off with a quick bouncer at Kagiso Rabada, who had also taken a five-fer in the first innings. With that wicket, Cummins also surpassed 300 Test wickets and guaranteed that his side was in complete command of the contest.
