Iyer’s Dazzling Shot Off Bumrah Yorker Goes Viral, de Villiers Confesses: ‘I’d Have Lost My Wicket’

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 match against the Mumbai Indians, Shreyas Iyer led the Punjab Kings to a five-wicket victory by scoring an undefeated 87 runs without making any errors. Consequently, for only the second time in their history, PBKS have advanced to the championship game of the T20 tournament. Shreyas' talent was so evident that even Jasprit Bumrah, who is a well-known figure, appeared to be inferior, and the pacer was unable to respond to the right-hander's attack.
AB de Villiers, the former captain of South Africa, was amazed by Shreyas' onslaught against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. He singled out the right-hander's incredible shot off a Jasprit Bumrah yorker for special commendation.
Bumrah delivered an excellent yorker on the second ball of the 18th over of the PBKS innings. Shreyas, though, rose to the occasion and delivered what may be the best shot of the IPL season. Shreyas appeared to be anticipating a yorker as he maintained a low posture in order to open the face of the bat.
The ball just went to the boundary fence for a boundary after he directed the delivery wide of Reece Topley at short third-man.
Regarding this specific delivery, de Villiers stated that his stumps would have been shaken if he had been facing it.
"That's the shot of the IPL for me. The ideal yorker is hitting the middle stump. It is, in the strictest sense, breaking the toe of the bat. That is not something you can escape. If I'm facing it, that could be breaking my stumps," de Villiers told JioStar.
“He puts the pressure right back on MI against the best bowler in the world, scoring a four off that. Unbelievable hitting – sheer raw power and might. He concluded by saying, "What a great player."

A huge fan of Shreyas
With six balls remaining and five wickets in hand, Shreyas led the Punjab Kings to chase down 204 thanks to his undefeated 81 off 41 balls, which included eight sixes and five fours.
The PBKS captain has been in excellent shape throughout the competition, scoring over 600 runs at an astounding average of above 54. de Villiers praised the India batter's consistency, stating that he is a big admirer of the PBKS captain, who was acquired in the mega auction for INR 26.75 crore.
“I have no idea where to begin. It's clear that I'm a big fan. But tonight's inning was out of this world. He deserves all the accolades he is receiving. De Villiers said that he stood strong under tremendous pressure, aware that it was a life-or-death situation and that the odds were against him.
"It was delightful to see his sixes." He maintained a perfect posture and kept his head steady. I appreciate that he is composed and level-headed rather than conceited. This man has a lot more runs to come in the future. I commend Shreyas Iyer. He also said, "What a knock."
The IPL 2025 final between the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will now take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
