Right before the players were about to enter the field at the typical start time of 7:30 PM, the rain began, and the ground crew sprang into action right away to protect the center. The rain started with a drizzle but soon grew worse. Right when the play was about to begin, a second and longer bout of rain brought things to a halt.

Even if rain caused the game to begin more than two hours late, the BCCI announced that when it restarted at 9:45 PM, no overs had been lost. Nevertheless, since Ahmedabad is still predicted to rain, supporters have questioned if a backup day has been planned in the event of a washout.

Regretfully, the Qualifier 2 match does not have a reserve day. According to the regulation, the side that placed higher in the points table will move to the championship game in the event of a total washout. This indicates that Mumbai, who placed fourth in the league stage, would have their campaign come to an end on Sunday, and Punjab, who topped the league stage, would face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit match at the same location on Tuesday.

The IPL's Playing Conditions notice for the 2025 edition of the competition specifies that the team that came in higher in the League at the conclusion of the relevant regular Season will be considered the winner of the relevant play-off game if a Super Over, or any following Super Overs, cannot be completed within the allotted time to determine the winner.

After defeating Punjab by eight wickets in Chandigarh on Thursday, RCB had previously advanced to the championship match. They qualified for the IPL championship for the first time in nine years.
