Indian captain Rohit Sharma is known for being aloof and laid-back, especially in off-the-field scenarios, despite having spent several years at the pinnacle of elite sports that need a certain fire and competitive spirit.

As a story was shared about Rohit's amiable attitude, this aspect of his personality resurfaced, but Tanay Tiwari, a cricket social media producer who has previously worked very closely with Mumbai Indians and the Indian national team, shared the tale.

In an episode of Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Tiwari recounted an event in which Rohit may have been justified in being upset, but instead, in an awkward scenario, he demonstrated his compassion by giving Tiwari some space.

"I unintentionally poured hot coffee on him while I was an intern with the Mumbai Indians. I was interviewing him, and the table was really little; I also had a camera and was in a hurry, so I spilled the coffee," Tiwari said.

"He was accompanied by a member of his squad who gave me a severe telling-off." Additionally, I was 21 years old in 2017. I was on the verge of tears, believing that my career was finished before it had even started.

But in that, Rohit Sharma intervened to help Tiwari. "He was like, 'Jaane de yaar, baccha hai (let it go, he's a kid). You ask your question, it's only coffee that has spilled, don't worry.' He saved my career then," Tiwari recalled.

"You have no idea how much happiness you've brought..."

It's amazing how close things came to going wrong, considering that Tanay Tiwari has now established himself as a significant figure in cricket broadcasting, with over 500,000 Instagram followers and a position on JioHotstar's coverage of the IPL and the Indian national team. However, he always expresses his appreciation for the occasion to Rohit, bringing it up whenever he gets the chance.

I've told him a number of times. I was speechless except for my thanks when I ran into him. I told him, "Rohitbhai, you probably have no idea how much joy you've brought to so many different individuals." Tiwari mimicked an embrace while saying, "Arrey yaar, aaja yaar (Come here)."

With the Mumbai Indians competing in the IPL 2025 playoffs, Rohit will be looking to capture a record-breaking seventh IPL championship. At the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, they will face the Gujarat Titans in the eliminator.
