RCB Legend AB de Villiers Rebukes IPL Commentators for ‘Unfair’ Criticism

The IPL commentators were criticized by former South Africa captain AB de Villiers for their "lazy and negative comments" about Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers and their obsession with a storyline during the previous league game of the 18th season between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants. De Villiers stated that the commentary during the RCB vs LSG game in Lucknow made him "so angry" without mentioning any names.

RCB achieved their first top-two finish since 2016 by chasing down LSG's 228-run mark in 18.4 overs at the high-scoring Ekamna Stadium to win the game by six wickets. With the victory, RCB secured its position in Qualifier 1 against the Punjab Kings, who were at the top of the table, and gave itself two chances to advance to the championship.

De Villiers chastised the analysts for unfairly disparaging the RCB bowlers during LSG's batting without attempting to comprehend the circumstances at hand.

In his YouTube channel, de Villiers said, "Last night I listened to the commentators, and honestly, it made me so angry. When we were bowling, they were so negative. They repeatedly said, "RCB's bowling is under pressure." It doesn't seem like they will be able to handle it. An in-form side is once again beginning to lose steam. But what about this—maybe it was simply a great batting pitch, guys? How about considering the possibility that it was a great batting surface, all you very smart and astute commentators out there?

De Villiers, who has played for RCB for 11 seasons between 2011 and 2021 and has scored 5422 runs at a strike rate of 158.33, is one of Virat Kohli's best friends and claims that the commentators focus on a story.

"They went on and on about how RCB's bowling unit was still in bad shape. I thought during the game that commentators occasionally concentrate on a storyline. Yes, RCB has never won a championship, but it is irresponsible to continually state, "Here we go again." The bowlers are ineffective and failing because they haven't properly assessed the situation on the field. On a challenging, extremely tough surface, Rishabh Pant will not be able to score 118 runs off sixty or so balls. The LSG batsmen were all fluent out there.

"Yes, there were occasions of bad bowling. However, one must consider the larger picture: 227 runs on a wicket that is not conducive to such hitting indicates that it was a really excellent surface. He continued, "RCB weren't defeated; they were still in the game, and they demonstrated that."

Thanks to Rishabh Pant's scorching 118* off 61 balls, LSG scored 228/3. In response, Virat Kohli made a half-century, and after he was out, Jitesh Sharma (85* off 33 balls) and Mayank Agarwal took over to complete the game.

According to De Villiers, the current RCB squad doesn't rely on any big names.

The fact that so many players are stepping up this year, rather than just one or two, is what excites me the most. It's not simply the typical Virat Kohli or, in the past, a Chris Gayle. de Villiers remarked, "We now see the entire team reacting under pressure, and in the match against Delhi, I believe Krunal Pandya played a fantastic innings." Josh Hazlewood performed his duties when asked. Everyone who has joined the squad appears to have discovered a method to make a contribution. In my opinion, that is the defining characteristic of a happy and productive team.

"Consider Mayank Agarwal, for example. He only just joined the team but made a match-winning contribution. This demonstrates that he felt at ease with the team culture and environment, according to de Villiers.
