In his hometown of Greenville, Mississippi, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Alex Foster of the Baylor Bears passed away on Tuesday night.

Foster was the 18th-best prospect in Mississippi and the 152nd best recruit overall in the country. Alex Foster was ranked 69th out of all potential defensive linemen. At only 18 years old, he was still a teenager.

A Greenville shooting incident killed Alex Foster. The specifics of the incident have not yet been made public. According to local media, he is the most recent victim of a string of shootings in Greenville.

The cause of Alex Foster's demise is disclosed in a statement from Baylor.

Following the death of Alex Foster, Vice President and Director of Athletics Mack B. Rhoades and Head Football Coach Dave Aranda issued a joint statement on behalf of Baylor Athletics.

“The sudden death of Alex Foster, a beloved member of our football family, has us devastated. As we pray for Alex's family and everyone who loved him, now and in the days ahead, we send them our heartfelt sympathies. We find solace during this difficult moment in our religion, the camaraderie of the Baylor family, and the enduring connection that the sport we love has created. Alex will always be a part of our hearts and this program, the announcement stated.

"Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who loved him so deeply," Aranda said in a separate X message.

After playing at St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Alex Foster was the top high school signee in Baylor Football's 2024 recruiting class. Despite receiving a late offer from the Texas Longhorns, he remained committed to Baylor throughout his recruitment process. Additionally, several other prestigious programs expressed interest in him.
