Rafael Devers of the Boston Red Sox has a new home with the San Francisco Giants as part of a major deal during a season of unhappiness for the designated hitter.

FanSided reports that the Red Sox are exchanging Devers with the San Francisco Giants for a group of players headlined by pitchers Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks.

Jose Bello, the pitcher, and James Tibbs, the designated hitter and right fielder, will also go east along with Harrison and Hicks. As a result, the Giants will get one designated hitter in return for four players. Is he deserving of it?

In his nine seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Rafael Devers has only ever played for one team. He has also contributed to the team's success by winning the World Series in 2018, earning Silver Slugger awards in 2021 and 2023, and being selected to the All-Star teams in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

He reduced .271/.400/.494 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs in 2025.

Recently, though, he has disagreed with the squad, openly condemning the Red Sox for their treatment of the offseason acquisition of third baseman Alex Bregman. Therefore, he had to leave.

However, because of the aftermath, the Red Sox will not allow such an asset to be wasted, and he has also been playing in the League this season. They therefore took the most they could from the San Francisco Giants, acquiring four players to address the weaknesses that have plagued them this season.

To acquire Devers, the Giants traded away designated hitter James Tibbs and pitchers Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks, and Jose Bello. Devers might be the solution for the Giants to advance past their current second wild-card spot in the National League, and this could assist the Red Sox stop run leakage and refill his position.
