‘Not Every Powerful Character Is a Hero’: Shaurya Director on Menon’s Role

The Test Case, Avrodh, and the forthcoming murder mystery Chhal Kapat are among the web series created by filmmaker Samar Khan. However, his 2008 movie Shaurya is what he is most known for as a filmmaker. The Tom Cruise-Jack Nicholson blockbuster A Few Good Men was adapted for Hindi in Shaurya, which featured Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Minissha Lamba, Deepak Dobriyal, and Jaaved Jaaferi.
The popular Kay Kay Menon moment in Shaurya
In the climax of Shaurya, Kay Kay's Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh confesses to misusing his authority, presuming that his moral standing will protect him, much as the renowned 'You can't handle the truth' monologue in A Few Good Men. Even though the purpose of the scene is to criticize the character, some of the monologue has been shared online in recent years, with posters expressing sympathy for Kay Kay Menon's character.
Samar opens up on the phenomenon, saying, "I have outgrown Shaurya many years ago," but adding that he is still very proud of the movie. I have no control over what other people make of it. Consequently, I don't respond to it. I frequently get queries on Twitter and other platforms, but I never answer since it's not my responsibility to do so. Anything I say will be interpreted in one way or another.
Samar Khan on taking the scene out of context
The filmmaker continues by stating that the scene has become popular for the wrong reasons since the general public finds villains more appealing. "Regrettably, the audience of that scene has not seen the scene that came before or after it. In Sholay, it's similar to stating that Gabbar Singh is my hero, even if it's out of context. That's too bad. Villains are considerably more alluring in our lifestyle. Shah Rukh Khan is still famous for Baazigar and Darr, regardless of how many DDLJs he performs. That is outside of our jurisdiction. As artists, we must distance ourselves from it and not be emotionally attached to it, he advises.
According to Samar Khan, the popularity of the viral videos demonstrates the fleeting nature of social media users' attention spans. He further states, "That gives people their views and clickbait."
The filmmaker is releasing a murder mystery series named Chhal Kapat. Chhal Kapat – the Deception, which is directed by Ajay Bhuyan and produced by Juggernaut Production, is debuting on ZEE5 on June 6. Shriya Pilgaonkar is the main character of the program, and it also features Kamya Ahlawat, Ragini Dwivedi, Tuhina Das, Yahhve Sharma, Pranay Pachauri, Smaran Sahu, and Anuj Sachdeva.
