Avinash Vijaykumar's English film My Hero, which incorporates snippets of Kannada and examines the caste-based oppression that is still common in many regions of the nation, including Karnataka, is now available on OTT. After a respectable festival run, the movie, which was released in theaters in August of last year, has since made its way to Amazon Prime Video, where it is only available for streaming from May 30, 2025, through TVOD (transactional video on demand) or rental for Rs 99. After purchase, the movie is accessible to the user for 30 days, but the user only has 48 hours to complete it once it has begun. The movie is a little over two hours long and, for some unknown reason, has been labeled as erotic on the platform.
Sylvester Stallone inspires the story of My Hero
Djilali Rez Kallah leads the film, along with kid actor Vedik Kaushik of Drama Juniors fame, Dattanna, Prakash Belawadi, Tanuja Krishnappa, Niranjan Deshpande, and Ankita Amar. The movie includes a cameo by Eric Roberts, a Hollywood performer. According to reports, Avinash drew ideas for the screenplay for My Hero from two actual events. In 2015, a few additional members of the family, including the half-brother of Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone, traveled to Haridwar to conduct the "thithi shradh" ceremony for Sage, the actor's late son.
This is where Djilali Rez Kallah's character Gary, who travels to the Maheshwar Ghats in Madhya Pradesh to perform ceremonies for his deceased son, is introduced. A young boy pretending to be his guide, Vishwa (Vedik Kaushik), takes him around town in the days preceding the rites, and the two strike up a friendship. Gary is then made aware of the child's terrible experience that forced him to flee his home in northern Karnataka. After that, Gary, a former member of the US Army, decides to bring the youngster back to his house.

According to reports, this piece was influenced by a recent occurrence in which the village council punished a dalit child and his family for unintentionally touching the idol of a god. The movie received praise for its poignant depiction of the topic and underlying social message.
