Catch the Laughter Again: Vidyapati Streams on a Second OTT Platform
6 months ago | 5 Views
After Tagaru Palya, Vidyapati was the second film starring Nagabhushana and the fourth production by Daali Dhananjaya, the actor-producer, under his label Daali Pictures. It was released in theaters on April 10 and made its debut on OTT in under a month. The movie by Ikkat makers Esham and Haseen had already been released on Amazon Prime Video, the same platform that had previously featured Tagaru Palya, on May 3.

The filmmakers of Tagaru Palya, with Vidyapati, appear to have chosen a non-exclusive arrangement, allowing them to market it elsewhere as well, even if it was on the streamer for a few months before landing on the Daali Pictures YouTube channel. It's possible that Vidyapati was released on Sun NXT just over three weeks after the Prime Video release due to the network holding the satellite rights, as of May 28, 2025. Vidyapati is currently available on OTTplay Premium for those who missed it in theaters or on Prime Video.
The storyline of Vidyapati
Vidyapati traces the adventures of Siddu (Nagabhushana), whose everyday hustle leads him into the path of superstar Vidya (Malaika Vasupal of Upadhyaksha fame), and he perceives an easy route out of his days of hardship. They get married after he persuades her that he's the man of her dreams, but then he transforms into a selfish, greedy leech who lives the high life.
During a night out, the couple runs into Jaggu (Garuda Ram), a goon who harasses Vidya, leaving Siddu unable to intervene. Vidya stops their marriage and throws Siddu out because she is upset by his lack of will to defend her and his efforts to find a quick fix to the problem. Siddu is compelled to live with his father in his modest home in a place he had long avoided. He must not only mend his ways, but also find a way back into Vidya's heart.
The Rishab Shetty film, Laughing Buddha, which was first shown on Prime Video and then moved to Sun NXT, is followed by Vidyapati. The movie also includes Girish Jatti, Bindu Raxidi, Rangayana Raghu, and Dhananjaya, who starred in Head Bush, in a significant cameo.
