Women’s UTI Risk Rises in Monsoon—Here’s Why and How to Stay Safe
4 months ago | 5 Views
The formation of illnesses can be exacerbated by a number of factors, including poor hygiene, damp clothes, and high humidity. These circumstances worsen throughout the monsoon season, greatly raising the likelihood of sickness. "Women are biologically predisposed to UTIs because of their short urethra, and things can only get worse in monsoon, but with a few minor changes, one may stay healthy and safe," stated Dr. Bonam Sri Harika, consultant obstetrician, laser, laparoscopic surgeon, and cosmetic gynecologist at Apollo clinic Manikonda.
Additionally, Dr. Bonam Sri Harika shared the errors that women commit throughout the monsoon season, raising their risk of UTIs:
1. You are wearing fake or wet clothing for too long.
Regardless of whether you're sweating or wet in non-breathable stuff, moisture down there is the ideal environment for bacteria to thrive.
Instead, switch to cotton, breathable underwear and avoid wearing damp clothing for hours. When you become wet or sweat excessively, change right away.

2. You are not consuming adequate water
On rainy or chilly days, they usually reduce their water intake, which causes the urine to become more concentrated, which irritates the bladder and raises the chance of infection.
What should you do instead: keep yourself hydrated. Drink 2-3 liters of water daily to help eliminate germs and maintain a healthy urinary system.
3. You underestimate the importance of UTIs and delay getting treatment.
Only when the burning and pain are at their worst do most of the women show up. The infection may have spread or recurred by then.
Instead, do this: Act quickly. Be mindful of signs like burning during urination, increased frequency of urination, or pain in the lower abdomen. Complications are avoided with early treatment.
4. When using public restrooms, you take insufficient care.
The monsoon is made more hazardous by the combination of frequent use of public restrooms and inadequate hygiene.
Instead, do this: Use toilet seat sanitizers or disposable seat covers if you use public restrooms, practice good hygiene, and wipe from front to back.
