Anxiety is a normal reaction before a date, whether it's the first or the fifth, with racing thoughts about how things might go and overthinking about the smallest things. If you're feeling anxious and worried about "what ifs" before your date night, And if you already have anxiety, things may appear even more daunting and cause you to panic. However, simple methods may help you overcome date anxiety.
Dr. Rajiv Mehta, Vice-Chairperson of Psychiatry at Sir Gangaram Hospital, gave an Lifestyle Magazine some advice on how to remain cool before and during a date.:
prior to going on a date
1. Make preparations well in advance. Make a list of your clothes, presents, location, transportation, and so on. Staying in control by preparing ahead eliminates stress.
2. Regularly engage in relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and so forth. You may soothe your anxieties by doing these things before the big day. You may also include these soothing practices in your daily schedule.
3. Concentrate on the occurrence rather than the result. Don't worry about it; instead, focus on getting to know the person and having fun. Usually, a relationship isn't determined by a single date.
4. Relaxing activities include chatting with a knowledgeable friend or listening to music. Anxiety is the result of concerns about the future, including how things will turn out and what might go wrong. Focusing less on the outcome helps you stay in the present and grounded.
5. Taking anti-anxiety medication as directed by a mental health expert might help you stay calm and in the moment.
On the date

1. Live in the present. Instead of worrying about the outcome, try to live in the moment and savor the experience. Celebrate the date as it unfolds rather than dissecting each word.
2. Be yourself. Being authentic even on a date may make a big difference. Don't do things just to make others happy. Being authentic helps reduce your anxiety on a date, too.
3. Pay attention when speaking. Practice active listening instead of speaking. People appreciate nonjudgmental listening. And you will be very appreciated. It also makes a positive impression.
