A woman's body undergoes many changes during pregnancy. During her postpartum period, Latika Bhargava, the mother of a three-year-old, went through it all. It was mentally unsettling for someone who had always weighed less than 55 kg to see the scale reach 68 kg. She was diagnosed with the hormonal disorder PCOS, which prompted her to make significant changes to her diet and exercise routine.

Latika, a 30-year-old public relations expert, shares with that her transformation began during a routine postpartum checkup at a doctor's office. "What was supposed to be a simple medical consultation turned out to be a reality check moment," she says. My gynecologist told me that I had gained an excessive amount of weight during and after my pregnancy after I gave birth. I reached a peak weight of 68 kg, which was strange and unpleasant for someone who had always kept her weight under 55 kg. For the first time in my life, I faced significant emotional and physical difficulties related to weight gain.

Her mental tranquility was disturbed. "I experienced depression and anxiety. She recalls, "Not only was it obvious to me that my body had changed so drastically, but it was also apparent to my friends and acquaintances, which made me feel even more exposed."

In addition to the obvious alterations to her physique, she discovered that she was facing a more significant medical condition: PCOS. "This diagnosis added another layer of distress, especially since I was already dealing with the new responsibilities of motherhood. But instead of letting the circumstance overpower me, I chose to take charge. "That choice marked the beginning of my motivating weight loss trip," Latika remarks.

Diet for losing weight

What kind of weight loss plan did you follow? That's when she started following a strict and regular schedule, with help from her mother, Sunita Bhargava.

"Latika explains, "The diet emphasized high-protein foods and healthy fats, as well as a variety of nuts and nutrient-dense meals which included Panjiri, a Punjabi dish rich in nuts and nutrition. I avoided crash diets in favour of long-term nutrition that would help with both my recovery as a new mother and my health goals."

Did you seek expert assistance with your weight reduction transformation?

"No, I didn't really take professional help... I showed my blood test reports to my family doctor, and he advised me to add some foods that would help me feel better." I also experienced a gut health problem during this process as a result of my body's low water levels. As a result, she experienced itching and rashes all over her body for nearly a week.

Motherhood and self-care

Women frequently struggle to prioritize self-care while raising children. How, then, did you find the right mix?

"It wasn't an easy job. I had very little spare time as a new mom. Despite this, I dedicate 30 minutes every day exclusively to working out. I made the most of every minute, even if it didn't seem like much at first. I maintained consistency, whether it was with planks, strength training, or brisk walks. "This daily discipline, combined with my dietary changes, gradually began to show results not only physically, but also mentally," says Latika.

How her life was changed by weight loss

"I saw my weight decrease and my self-esteem rise over time. She reflects, "My PCOS symptoms got better, and most importantly, I felt like myself again. I not only lost weight, but I also gained strength."

Latika Bhargava's deeper insight was that genuine transformation originates from within. "It's not about fitting into a specific size or matching a number on a scale, but about regaining one's sense of self, particularly after major life changes such as pregnancy."

Latika, who thinks her tale might motivate other women dealing with postpartum changes, says that in pursuit of her weight reduction objectives, determination and resilience became her superpowers.
