While he is now happily married to Penny Lancaster, Rob Stewart reflected on his previous relationships. In a Times interview on Friday, June 27, he discussed his initial encounter with Lancaster in a bar shortly after his divorce from Rachel Hunter, his then-wife. Despite the fact that the musical legend thought himself "very fortunate" to "walk out of one marriage into next," he said that his breakup from his prior wife was not that simple.

Soon after Stewart's divorce from Hunter in 1999, he met Lancaster. He remembered their meet-cute: “She walked up to me and requested my autograph, so I replied, ‘Do you like dancing?’ She was a fantastic dancer, beautiful, 6 feet 4 inches tall in heels, ai-yi-yi.

But he had trouble breaking up with Hunter. “My bass player had Penny’s number but wouldn’t give it to me, so there were six months between Rachel and Penny,” he told the press. "Now you're going to do nothing but shag about," he said. And he was correct: I enjoyed those six months very much.

"Rachel left me because she was too young, and my sister told me that I should never have married her in the first place, but it ripped me to pieces," Stewart went on.

When Stewart and Hunter got married, they were 45 and 21, respectively, which, according to The Mirror, proved to be a major factor in their disagreement. In 2007, Lancaster wed the singer after their divorce became official in 2006.

According to Stewart, Lancaster is "everything."

"I'm with Penny now, and she's got everything I could ever want," Stewart said in an interview with The Times. He told People magazine in an earlier interview in 2021 that his current wife had, in the end, "mended my heart in more ways than one."

“It’s a perfect relationship,” the 80-year-old said. I constantly remind my daughters and the girls in my band, "A woman has so much living to do." You have one life! Forget about guys.

From 1979 until 1984, Stewart's first marriage was to Alana Stewart.
