Since she will be unable to attend the re-release of the Rekha-starring Umrao Jaan in cinemas, Priyanka Chopra has wrote a letter. Priyanka also referred to it as her "favourite movie" in an Instagram Story.

A short clip from the movie starring Rekha, Farooque Shaikh, and Naseeruddin Shah was shared by Priyanka. "So sad that I couldn't be there to support my favorite movie and actors," she wrote. The evening will be remembered forever. Congratulations, madam. #RekhaMaam #NaseeruddinShah sir.

About Umrao Jaan

The picture, which was produced in 1981, has been restored and will be available for re-release in theaters on June 27. The National Film Development Corporation-National Film Archive of India repaired it under the National Film Heritage Mission. The story, which takes place in the 19th century, follows Amiran's (Rekha) arrival at a brothel in Lucknow and her interactions with three important figures, portrayed by Farooque Shaikh, Raj Babbar, and Naseeruddin Shah.

The movie, which is an adaptation of Mirza Hadi Ruswa's historical 1899 novel Umrao Jaan Adaa, received widespread praise for its exquisite narrative, music, and Rekha's performance, for which she won her first National Award for her role as Amiran. The movie received three Filmfare accolades as well as the National Awards for Best Music Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Female Playback Singer.

In an interview with PTI, a news agency, filmmaker Muzaffar Ali recently referred to the reissue of the Rekha-starring historical drama as a moment of "emotional catharsis." After a restoration, he said that Umrao Jaan had lost some of its sheen but had come to life in "full flesh and blood."

Regarding Priyanka's future endeavors

Alongside Idris Elba and John Cena, Priyanka will appear in Heads of State. Priyanka will also appear in the highly awaited online series Citadel 2. The release of the second season, which was supposed to happen this year, has been pushed back "to a spring 2026 debut."

According to reports, Priyanka will co-star with Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli's next film. She will portray a 19th-century Caribbean pirate in The Bluff.
