In a special conversation with Hindustan Times, Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia shared how she had to forfeit a role in a film featuring Diljit Dosanjh due to her commitments on television. She explained how that lost chance paved the way for her entry into Punjabi cinema with Shaunki Sardar. She also addressed the difficulties of shifting from television to film, mentioning the stereotypical views held by producers.
Nimrit explains her decision to pass on Diljit Dosanjh's film
Nimrit recounted how she lost the chance to work on a film with Diljit Dosanjh because of her obligations to Choti Sarrdaarni. She mentioned, "After competing in Miss India, I was receiving numerous offers for Punjabi films during my time on Choti Sarrdaarni and after my reality show appearances. However, I missed several opportunities due to scheduling conflicts. I recall being considered for a film starring Diljit Dosanjh, and at that point, the producer was quite eager to cast me. The shooting was set to take place during Covid, and I had to be in Canada. They needed 40 days for filming, but I could only commit 15 days due to my Choti Sarrdaarni schedule. As you know, in television, it’s tough to take on too many projects at once. "
She shared how, although she didn't seize that chance, she ended up being cast in Shaunki Sardar thanks to the producers of that earlier film. She stated, "The producer, Pawan Gill, recommended me to the director of Shaunki Sardar. That led him to contact me, present the story, and inquire if I would be interested. I was excited to audition for it. After auditioning, I was fortunate that he liked my performance. "
Reflecting on the admiration she has received for her role, Nimrit expressed, "My personality drives me to constantly focus on my next objective. My mother even advised me to take a moment to enjoy these experiences. However, I feel I haven’t truly had the chance to do so. Yet, it is incredibly uplifting when people recognize your efforts. For an actor, receiving recognition for one's skill is crucial. It feels almost dreamlike. "

She shared that her family was excited to learn about her collaboration with Babbu Maan. She went on to explain how the actor praised her work in the movie. Discussing the hurdles of shifting from television to movies, she remarked, "There are obstacles, often stemming from the stereotype that you’re a television actor. But I believe once you land a project, those thoughts fade. Before that, there are challenges during auditions. There are definitely people who hold onto those stereotypes, but then there are also those amazing individuals who recognize your talent. I consider myself lucky that this project worked out because they appreciated my abilities and didn’t view me through a narrow lens. I believe anyone making the shift from television to film would likely share a similar experience. "
