The conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2025 took place on Tuesday night, where Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) triumphed over Punjab Kings (PBKS) to secure their first championship. The IPL final held in Ahmedabad featured a notable presence of Bollywood personalities. Preity Zinta, one of the co-owners of PBKS, was there to support her team, while Anushka Sharma was there rooting for RCB and her husband Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, in the commentary booth, renowned actor Aamir Khan contributed some excitement and promoted his film Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan in the IPL commentary panel
Aamir showed up at the stadium on Tuesday, joining Suresh Raina and Aakash Chopra in the Hindi commentary section for a 20-minute segment during the IPL 2025 final. The audience had varied responses to Aamir’s commentary. Some appreciated his understanding of cricket, while others were annoyed by his apparent bias toward Virat Kohli and RCB. The actor commended Kohli as a 'perfectionist,' a label frequently linked to Aamir himself. He also remarked that winning the IPL would be an amazing farewell for an illustrious career like that of Kohli.

Rahul Dholakia on Aamir Khan's commentary
Among those who were not supportive of Aamir's commentary role was Rahul Dholakia, the director of Raees. The filmmaker took to Twitter, now known as X, on Tuesday evening and stated, "Hey, promote your movie but don’t preach. " He expressed his desire for KOHLI to win this year and Zinta to claim victory next year, saying that both individuals are deserving winners due to their dedication. Although he didn’t mention Aamir by name, the timing of the post led fans to believe it was directed at him, who was part of the commentary team promoting his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par.
Fans respond
Aamir's supporters were not pleased with the pointed remark and reacted by criticizing Dholakia in their replies. One tweet commented, "That was a low blow. " Another user harshly added, "Aren’t you and SRK giving out sermons during your entire Raees promotion? " The tweet quickly garnered hundreds of responses, with many mocking Aamir and some taking aim at Rahul Dholakia. Later that night, the filmmaker removed his tweet.
Rahul Dholakia is an award-winning director known for movies like Parzania, Mumbai Cutting, and Lamhaa. His most notable commercial hit was the 2017 film Raees featuring Shah Rukh Khan. Meanwhile, Aamir is making his comeback to cinemas with RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, marking his first role since the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha three years ago. The movie is scheduled to be released on June 20.
