In the Favourite K-pop artist category, Kim Namjoon, the leader of BTS, also known as RM, made history by winning at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). Namjoon posted his response to the victory on his Instagram Stories. However, since he is now serving in the South Korean army, he was unable to attend the celebration.

As a result of the AMAs victory, Namjoon is the first K-pop performer to ever win this prize for both solo and ensemble performances. When nominated alongside Rose from BLACKPINK, Jimin from BTS, ATEEZ, and Stray Kids, Namjoon took home the prize. Namjoon's victory was announced on the official Instagram account of BTS. It said, "Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY (purple heart emoji)."

Namjoon re-shared the post and said, "Thank you @amaz #ARMY (kissing face emoji)." Additionally, Namjoon posted a Yonhap News article discussing BTS's military release in June. He reposted it, writing, "Seriously, soon, it will be soon." After Namjoon's victory, followers reacted by leaving remarks on Reddit. Someone wrote, "Yaaaaayyyy!!! Well done, RM! The head of BTS has won the first AMA Kpop prize. And RPWP was a masterpiece! Let's go!

"Oh my God, I'm so happy for him. Because his album is too genre-bending, he won't be nominated in Korea, but I'm pleased the army was able to win that victory for him," one admirer stated. "I was really worried about this one, since we had several members nominated. I'm so happy we managed to pull through for Joon!!" read another comment. "This makes me so happy, glad we could pull through and get this for him," said a different BTS ARMY member. He merits this and a lot more.

"Namjoon prevailed!" Wow, this is his first prize as a solo performer in the United States/West! The fans also cast their votes! He is entitled to this and more. "Congratulations!" exclaimed another supporter. "Also the first year the AMAs introduced the kpop category and Joon won it!," a person stated. "I hope he wins more actual music awards for his solo artistry! (He’s been massively snubbed). Hope he also wins the SMA for hiphop! (He’s been massively snubbed)."

"I'm overjoyed that he won an award voted by the fans! Most (all?) of his victories for RPWP have been critic and selected choices (which is incredible and amazing!)," said someone else. “Congratulations Namjoon!!!!” another admirer exclaimed. Deservedly so. I'm really thrilled that he and Jimin were nominated. The first K-Pop performer to ever win this prize as both a soloist and as a member of a group.

Right Place, Wrong Person was the title of RM's second solo album, which came out last year. BTS also made history earlier in 2022 by being the first band to win Favorite Pop Duo or Group for four consecutive years at the American Music Awards. Together with other BTS members Suga, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook, RM will be released next month. Last year, Jin and J-Hope finished their military duty.
