Muzammil Ibrahim says he deserved best debut award over Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya: ‘Even Shah Rukh Khan said so’

In 2007, the same year that Ranbir Kapoor starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya, Muzammil Ibrahim made his acting debut in Dhokha. Muzammil claims that Ranbir's triumph in all the top debut awards that year was completely unjustified. Muzammil said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan that all award presentations are scripted and that he felt terrible when he received nothing even after giving a fantastic performance.

What Muzammil said

"I believe Ranbir debuted that year with Saawariya, and Neil Nitin Mukesh came with Johnny Gaddar," Muzammil said during the discussion. I deserved all the accolades, according to Nana Patekar, but I won't get them since Ranbir will win. I merited the best debut award, in my opinion, even if I believed I deserved an award for Dhokha. In Saawariya, I thought I outperformed Ranbir. Although I now adore Ranbir as an actor, I was superior to him in Saawariya when compared to me in Dhokha. Mahesh Bhatt was informed by Irfan Khan that only a select few could have performed that role in Dhokha.

The winners of award presentations are chosen in advance.

Muzammil confessed that, despite being nominated alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh, he wasn't even invited to the award ceremonies. "Awards shows should be like a ballot, like we see in Oscars," he continued. Everyone, however, is aware of the victor! Since Ranbir is the only person there, he will win. The decision is made in advance. When Shah Rukh Khan sir called my name and even stated onstage that he thought I deserved the award more, I felt so awful. We are unable to even complain about these because we are outsiders. How will you feel if we aren't even invited? I was so sad that I wanted to weep. I had a lot of hopes. Despite all the hardship I endured during filming, I nevertheless delivered an amazing performance. The challenges we experience are enormous, and I am a strong advocate for outside talent. The business should learn not to disrespect outsiders."

Mahesh Bhatt produced Dhokha, while Pooja Bhatt was in charge of directing. In the movie, Muzammil played a police officer, and his performance was lauded. Special Ops, a web series, was the last place he was seen.
