Housefull 5 Director Faces Criticism for Comparing Babies to Dogs Amid Deepika Padukone-Vanga Row

Ever since it was revealed that Deepika Padukone declined Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Prabhas-starrer Spirit, there has been a lot of discussion about the film industry being favorable to new working moms, equal pay, and other issues. When Tarun Mansukhani, the director of Housefull 5, stated that he too would want to be able to return home at a fair hour to take care of his dog, he assumed he was echoing Deepika's desire for an eight-hour workday. However, he has drawn the ire of the internet community for comparing caring for a dog to caring for a child.

Deepika Padukone's eight-hour warning

A Pinkvilla story from last month said that Deepika refused Spirit due to disagreements over the pay scale, Telugu language, and daring sequences. The fact that the actor wanted a rigid 8-hour workday since she was responsible for her infant daughter Dua was the thing that most people noticed. Although there were first rumors about her "unprofessionalism," the Hindi cinema industry quickly came to her defense, with Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam backing her wish for fair working hours.

What did the director of Houseful 5 say?

In an interview with India Today, Tarun, the film's director, spoke favorably of Deepika, stating that there are always methods to get around a hectic schedule. Additionally, he said that any requests the actor may have must be included in a contract in advance rather than at the last minute. Additionally, he stated, "I want to go home and spend time with my dog. I am therefore completely aware of the mood. However, it drew criticism for simply including it in the contract from the start, then everyone is ready.

Tarun compares the baby to a dog, and the internet is not pleased.

Tarun's analogy of caring for a dog to caring for a baby did not sit well with the internet. One Reddit user seemed taken aback by the comparison, asking, "Is he comparing spending time with his dog with Deepika's newborn baby?" "Male Mira Kapoor. Babies are puppies," wrote another Redditor. "Men," one guy remarked, "oh taking care of a child is just like a pet be away from them even if you're missing them, don't worry about breastfeeding or any of your own maternal instincts. Also men: What's wrong with these career-oriented women, who should be at home caring for their children and cleaning the house?

Redditors were so offended that they referred to Tarun as a "manchild," writing, "He's trying to become another manchild.. answer is very kidish." The director's remark, "This guy comparing dogs with babies clearly doesn't understand the difference between want and need … anyway..it's obviously a dig at her," was seen by another as a complete insult to Deepika. One Redditor even questioned when new mothers would be treated with respect, posting, "She's a god damn mother, can we please cancel these unaware idiotic statement passing directors who wont show any grace towards a woman to recover post birth? JEEZ. THIS IS 21ST CENTURY FFS."

The news that Deepika will shortly play alongside Allu Arjun in Atlee's movie was made public on Saturday. The video that the producers released showed her performing tricks in a regulated environment.
