Harold & Kumar Reunion: John Cho and Kal Penn Set for New Sequel?
5 months ago | 5 Views
The creators of Cobra Kai are working on a new Harold & Kumar film. In the newest installment of the cult comedy, Kal Penn and John Cho are anticipated to reprise their roles. Deadline reported that the three men responsible for Netflix's breakout hit Cobra Kai—Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald—are working on a brand-new Harold & Kumar movie.
Mandate Pictures, Lionsgate's production company, is backing the project; they also supported the stoner couple's original adventures twenty years ago.
Since the creators started their Hollywood careers with the now-iconic franchise, this is somewhat of a homecoming for them. They collaborated on the screenplay for the first movie, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, in 2004, and went on to make their directorial debut with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay in 2008.

Kal Penn and John Cho are anticipated to reprise their roles.
John Cho and Kal Penn, who portrayed Harold Lee and Kumar Patel, are said to be in discussions to reprise their parts, even if the casting is still being finalized. Although their agreements have not yet been formally finalized, indications are that both performers will reprise their roles in this new installment.
Heald co-wrote the screenplay with Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who will direct the movie. The trio, along with Greg Shapiro, a longtime collaborator on the franchise, will also produce under their Counterbalance Entertainment brand.
Nathan Kahane, who is about to leave the studio and currently holds the position of President of Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group, is also listed as a producer. Deadline reported that Dina Hillier will serve as executive producer for Counterbalance.
A cult legacy with significant enduring power
What began as a modest box office success has evolved into a genuine cult classic. Although the original Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle didn't make news during its theatrical run, its DVD life was quite different.
Two sequels were spawned by that sleeper hit: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011) and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008). The three movies grossed a total of $104 million globally. Because of its ridiculous humor, incisive commentary, and unusual chemistry between the two leads, the franchise has gained a devoted following.
