Australia Denies Kanye West Entry Over Controversial ‘Heil Hitler’ Track

After the publication of his song Heil Hitler, which drew criticism for advocating Nazi beliefs, Ye's visa to Australia was revoked. According to Reuters, the contentious rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, released the song on social media and streaming services in May. The cancellation was confirmed on Wednesday by Tony Burke, Australia's Home Affairs Minister, who stated that the move was caused by the 48-year-old's most recent song and not by any of his previous statements.

"It was a lower level (visa), and the officials still looked at the law and said you're going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism, we don't need that in Australia. We have enough problems in this country already without deliberately importing bigotry," Burke said to ABC.

Kanye West's prior scandals

This isn't the first time Ye has been at odds with people for using antisemitic language. Several months before Heil Hitler's release, his online posts—including statements like "I love Hitler" and "I'm a Nazi"—made headlines throughout the world.

Reuters reported that, in those days, Australian officials took no action to ban his travel. However, the publication of a song that openly alludes to Adolf Hitler, according to authorities, went too far. Jewish organizations and civil society groups in Australia responded to the new song with renewed and forceful criticism. Several urged for strong measures, arguing that hate speech should not be allowed on platforms that have a worldwide audience.

His situation was not improved by his marriage to an Australian architect.

Ye has ties to Australia via his personal relationships. Since marrying Melbourne-born architect Bianca Censori in December 2022, he has made several trips to the nation. However, Burke emphasized that the rapper's behavior should not be excused just because he has family in the nation.

The visa revocation date was not specified. The media has not yet received a response from Ye's management when asking for comment.

In the past, Australia has done something similar. Candace Owens, a conservative American pundit, was refused admission in October 2024. "The national interest of Australia is best served when Candace Owens is somewhere else," Burke is said to have said then.
