Aamir Khan Reveals How He Lost ‘Darr’ to Shah Rukh Khan Over Narration Dispute

Aamir Khan has admitted that his departure from Yash Chopra's psychological thriller Darr was caused by a dispute over the narrative style. Shah Rukh Khan rose to fame for his performance as an obsessive stalker in the 1993 thriller, along with Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. Since then, Aamir has claimed that he was initially slated to star in the movie, but he was fired because he requested a joint narration.
Aamir Khan emphasizes that he was fired from Darr rather than that he rejected it
Aamir dismissed the popular notion that he had rejected the role when the chance to star in Darr came along by talking about the major movies he had never gotten around to making in a Zoom interview. The superstar stated, "I didn't say no to Darr. I said yes, but I was fired from the film because I wanted a joint narration."
He stated that his chosen mode of collaboration when many key artists are involved in a film was the foundation of his request. He stated, "There were two actors, and I have this principle that if there are two actors, then the director should give a joint narration, and Yash ji didn't want to do that, so he fired me." Everyone has their own method of doing things. "I think two people should listen to the narration together so we can work as a team," I said.
Regular practice in other movies, such as Andaz Apna Apna
Aamir asserts that this was not a one-time occurrence. He used the same approach while collaborating with Salman Khan in Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna (1994). Salman stated that he would not proceed without his presence at possible joint narratives, despite his continual absence. Aamir disclosed, "Salman canceled the meeting three times, just as he did in Andaz Apna Apna when Rajkumar Santoshi was narrating for the first time." We arrived, but he was not there. "I won't listen to it either," I stated. His secretary stated, "Salman will listen to it later; you guys carry on; he is doing the film." I won't pay attention to it unless Salman is around. He canceled three times, but we eventually listened to it together.

After the release of Darr, Sunny, who played the film's conventional hero, is reported to have believed that Shah Rukh's performance overshadowed his own. The bitter feud between Sunny and Shah Rukh lasted for decades, but it was finally resolved when SRK joined the 2023 success party of Gadar 2.
