Aamir Khan Rejected Swades as ‘Boring’; Shah Rukh Khan Turned It Into a Classic
5 months ago | 5 Views
Aamir Khan recently spoke about his choice to decline Swades, a part that Shah Rukh Khan went on to portray very successfully. Critics praised the 2004 film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker for its realistic storyline and perceptive social commentary. However, Aamir was disinterested in Swades' opening narration, according to him.
The Lagaan origin during the Swades shoot
As Aamir recalled in a Zoom interview, Gowariker proposed the concept for Swades, which was initially known as Kaveri Amma, while shooting Lagaan. "I had liked the story very much," the superstar declared. "I said we’d make that one after Lagaan." We had Ashu meet with a writer after Lagaan was released. It was being produced by AKP (Aamir Khan Productions).”
However, when the final story occurred, Aamir was still not convinced. He disclosed, "Ashu told me the story when it was complete." The narration lasted three hours. I told him I wanted to share my initial impression first when he inquired how I enjoyed it. I stated, "I got bored." It's crucial for you to listen to this response. What you are attempting to convey is absolutely accurate, good, and significant; yet, I got bored if you expressed it in such a monotonous way... I don't know about everyone else.'
Original title and initial proposal
"I told Ashu this when he told me the tale," Aamir said further. In fact, when we were producing Lagaan, Ashu told me the story. It was called 'Kaveri Amma' at the time. That's what he told me."

The superstar ultimately concluded he didn't want to participate in it and also never viewed the completed outcome. "I haven't really seen the film yet," he remarked. Perhaps he would have fixed it, and people would have appreciated it at that time. I did observe that everyone enjoyed Shah Rukh's performance in it.
Details of the praised performance and film of Shah Rukh Khan
The movie, which focused on NASA scientist Mohan Bhargava's return to India to reconnect with his family, was co-produced by Gowariker and UTV Motion Pictures. Gayatri Joshi made her acting debut in the supporting role, while Shah Rukh Khan starred in the lead.
Although Shah Rukh's two recent hits, Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, and Jawan, directed by Atlee, were both released in 2023, Aamir said he had not seen either of them. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that he had liked SRK's earlier movies. He believed that Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was excellent. At a recent event, Aamir declared that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is one of his favorite movies.
