TVS Motor Company has recently launched its new electric scooter, the TVS Orbiter, aiming to capture the growing electric vehicle (EV) market in India, especially among younger urban consumers. Priced competitively at ₹99,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru and New Delhi, inclusive of the PM e-Drive scheme), the Orbiter blends style, practicality, and technology, making it a strong contender alongside its sibling, the iQube.

Design and Practical Features

The TVS Orbiter sports a minimalist yet sharp design with a distinctive boxy side panel flow, and a handlebar-mounted LED headlamp that resembles TVS’s popular Jupiter model. The scooter’s standout feature is its segment-first 14-inch front wheel paired with a balanced rear setup, offering improved riding stability and confident handling on city roads.

Comfort is enhanced through an 845 mm long seat and a spacious 290 mm straight-line footboard, accompanied by a large 34-litre under-seat storage compartment, capable of holding two helmets—an advantage over many of its rivals.

Performance and Range

Equipped with a robust 3.1 kWh Li-ion battery, the Orbiter claims an impressive IDC range of 158 km on a single charge. While real-world tests are still awaited, early estimates suggest around 120 km in city rides. The scooter’s top speed is capped at 68 km/h, in line with urban commuting needs.

Its BLDC hub motor and IP67 waterproof rating promise reliability and efficiency. The scooter offers eco and power riding modes and features regenerative braking to enhance battery efficiency.

Tech and Connectivity

The Orbiter integrates smart technology with connectivity features controlled via a mobile app. Riders can enjoy turn-by-turn navigation, over-the-air updates, geo-fencing, anti-theft alerts, crash and fall notifications, and remote battery monitoring. Additional features like hill hold assist, cruise control, parking assist, and a USB charging port enhance convenience and safety.

Market Strategy and Audience

TVS aims to position the Orbiter not as a replacement but as a parallel option to the iQube, focusing on a new-age buyer demographic that seeks style, tech, and practicality in their EV choice. Initially launching in Bengaluru, TVS plans to expand availability to other states, recognizing the rapid growth of India’s EV segment and youthful urban riders.

The TVS Orbiter electric scooter combines affordability, a striking design, and a host of advanced features, making it an attractive option for first-time EV buyers and style-conscious commuters. With a strong range, smart connectivity, and practical comforts, the Orbiter is set to cement TVS’s position as a key player in India’s evolving EV landscape.
