Things haven't exactly gone according to plan for Australian teen star Sam Konstas since his thrilling Boxing Day debut in his Test match against India. Konstas has scored just 86 runs in his next seven innings since his outstanding 60 opening the batting, which featured a few well-known scoops off Jasprit Bumrah and a minor incident with Virat Kohli.

The 19-year-old's inability to rediscover his scoring form on the international stage clearly affected him, as evidenced by his dismissal for a duck in the second innings of Australia's second Test against the West Indies. Konstas was visibly heartbroken at having missed yet another opportunity to claim that opening spot for himself after being given the responsibility in the Caribbean, despite the fact that it was a rather unlucky dismissal as he chopped onto his bails.

The young New South Wales batter was visibly upset and walked back to the pavilion with his head down. Despite his quick start in the Sheffield Shield, a domestic competition, transitioning to international cricket has proven to be as difficult as many critics predicted.

Konstas receives support from his head coach

In spite of the difficulties he was experiencing, Konstas did have a key ally on his side. Konstas' response to his dismissal in Grenada was observed by Australian coach Andrew McDonald, who immediately saw to it that the youngster was accessible.

McDonald had previously pleaded for patience with Konstas, who is regarded as a long-term choice for an opener, before the second Test match. In light of this, the Australian coach sought leniency for this poor run of form while Konstas learns about Test cricket.

“It’s really that balance and tempo ... that's a step up to Test cricket. He has a fantastic partner at the other end (Usman Khawaja). I believe that will happen eventually. "All we ask for is a little patience and time with a young player coming into Test cricket," McDonald told a news conference.

At stumps on day two, Australia was ahead by 45 runs, but the Windies were still in the game. They were 12/2 in their third innings.
