Things simply don't occur when they don't. Day 5 of the first Test against England at Headingley saw India labor for 32 overs as they continued their search for wickets. There was no activity in the air or off the wicket at all. The opening pair of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley were doing a fantastic job for England. Up until Mohammed Siraj bowled his heart out and delivered the fourth ball of the 39th over, they didn't appear to be in any distress. Duckett made a mistake with a bouncer.

The delivery caught Duckett off guard, and he top-edged the ball to deep square leg. With Jaiswal missing another one, his fourth of the game, the opportunity turned to despair when he could have provided India with their much-needed breakthrough. Duckett rubbed salt into India's wounds by completing his century and, more importantly, preventing India from taking any wickets. At that point, he was on 97.

"Only this awful fate that we're seeing take place here. As you just said, Jaiswal is not in gully, but rather at deep square leg, where he has let a hard catch slip. And against Mohamed Siraj. He's getting a little hot under the collar, in other words. This should have been taken. Manjrekar stated on television, "This catch should have been taken."

"It's nerves more than anything else. At this point in his career, you should feel for Mohammad Siraj and the catches you drop, considering the manner in which he has performed in the past several test matches. Several wickets coming his way. One of these is extremely significant. Nicely stated, Ben Duckett. India would have been back in the match if Ben Duckett had been out. Wasn't meant to happen."

Jaiswal, the fielder, had a game to forget

After dropping three catches in the first innings, this was Jaiswal's fourth missed catch of the game. His expression spoke volumes. Jaiswal felt remorseful and returned to his position silently after receiving some solace from Prasidh Krishna. Siraj, on the other hand, was far from composed; he was furious. Knowing the repercussions, Jaiswal kept his distance from the Indian pacer.
