The Indian Premier League is about to crown a new champion this season. Punjab Kings made it to the final, where they'll face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. Punjab beat Mumbai Indians, who have won five titles, to reach their first final in eleven years. They still hope to win their first IPL trophy. In the final, they'll go up against RCB, a team that’s also chasing its first IPL title.

The two teams have already played three matches this season. Punjab won the first game, but RCB took the next two. One of those wins was a big confidence boost in Qualifier 1 for RCB. Still, the final will be a whole new game. Both teams will be under pressure to win their first title.

Meanwhile, former Punjab Kings captain Virender Sehwag jokingly tried to jinx RCB ahead of the final. He wanted to boost his old team’s luck as they went for their first IPL trophy.

Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, “I think RCB will win. I’ve gone back to my old way of thinking because I’ve seen the team I support tend to lose. Like in the match against MI or Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1.” He added, “Today I supported MI in their game against PBKS, and they lost too.”

When a host asked Sehwag who he was supporting, he grinned and said, “RCB.” Cheekily, he showed he was joking.

Sehwag also said that whenever he supported the Indian team, they also lost.

He said, “Whenever I back them openly, they go on to lose that match.”

IPL is ready to crown its first-ever champion

Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to last year’s IPL win, has been a standout for Punjab this season. He’s their top scorer and showed it with a solid unbeaten 78 in the qualifier. His big score helped Punjab chase down a tough target set by Mumbai Indians. Iyer is shaping up to be crucial for Punjab in the final.

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli is still their main batsman. But Josh Hazlewood’s contributions are just as important. The Australian fast bowler has taken 21 wickets, making him the fourth-highest wicket-taker this year. He’ll be eager to add more in what could be his last match of the season.
