Vaibhav Suryavanshi Hits 9 Sixes Against England but Left Heartbroken After Missing Out on Century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was devastated. He couldn't pardon himself. He needed a while to pull himself out of the park. In the third Youth ODI at Northampton, the Indian cricket prodigy fell just 14 runs short of scoring a blazing century against England U19. The nine sixes that he struck in the first eight overs of the game were unimportant, as was a strike rate of 277.41. Suryavanshi understood that the century was there for the taking, but it wasn't in the cards for the aggressive left-handed batter.

During a record-breaking IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals, the 14-year-old, who made the most of the game watch in awe, smashed a 31-ball 86 against England U19 on Wednesday. In the two Youth ODIs prior, Suryavanshi scored 48 and 45 against the same opponent. His strike rate was 252 and 132. Evidently, scoring runs rapidly and hitting boundaries wasn't the issue. All he needed was a large sum.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhigyan Kundu opened the batting for Vaibhav Suryavanshi as they sought to chase down 269 for the win. With only three balls, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made the day's first boundary. He hit another before the second over concluded. The true carnage began in the third over.

England U19 bowlers are put to the sword by Vaibhav Suryavanshi

With two sixes, Vaibhav made it clear that he intended to take Sebastian Morgan down. He continued to play aggressively in the following over, but he lost his opening partner, Abhigyan Kundu, for 12 runs. In the fifth over of the Indian innings, Suryavanshi struck Morgan for two further sixes and a four, leaving him still exposed to the assault.

James Minto, another new-ball bowler for England U19, was not spared. In the sixth over, Suryavanshi struck three sixes and a four, bringing up his half-century off just 20 deliveries.

Ralphie Albert was introduced by England as a bowling substitution, but India's brilliant opener Vaibhav Suryavnashi treated him the same way. His first over resulted in 14 runs, one of which was Suryavanshi's six.

From the other end, there was a further change in bowling. Alexander Wade, a medium pacer with the right arm, entered the assault this time. India's No. 3 Vihaan Malhotra gave him a boundary to welcome him into the attack, but the excitement started when he scored a single to hand the strike to Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

In the first three deliveries he faced off against Wade, the 14-year-old, baby-faced cricketer hit two fours and a six. The right-armer next threw a bouncer at Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The left-hander attempted the hook, but the result was not what he expected, and he was caught in the hole in the outfield.

The England U19 cricketers were unstoppable. They knew it was a major wicket because another half hour of Suryavnashi would have nearly decided their destiny in the game.
