Amanjot Shines as Both Batter and Bowler in India’s 2nd T20I Victory

Chandigarh: Prior to the trip to England, the Indian women's team had focused on Amanjot Kaur as a potential bowling option in white-ball cricket. However, in the second T20I against England at Bristol on Tuesday night, she demonstrated that her coach Nagesh Gupta's description of her as a two-dimensional cricketer was accurate.
At number five, the 24-year-old scored an amazing unbroken 40-ball 63, which was the shared highest score. And as Amanjot came on to bowl, he started by taking the crucial wicket of the in-form England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.
But it was with the bat that she really boosted the Indian team's confidence, which had been lacking for a while. With India getting ready for the next Women's ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup the following year, every team would love to have a seam-bowling all-rounder as a luxury, and India would like to add that kind of luxury to the talent they may call upon.
Raising 93 runs for the fourth wicket, Amanjot made sure she stayed on the task and collaborated with Jemimah Rodrigues, the joint top scorer. India then scored 181/4, the second-highest women's T20I score at Bristol, as Richa Ghosh (32*) and she put together an unbroken 57.
Her first T20I half-century came after 35 deliveries. Amanjot demonstrated throughout the rebuilding project that she is also capable of increasing the innings with tidy stroke play in the closing overs.
Following the early shocks when India lost Shafali Verma (3), Smriti Mandhana (13), and Harmanpreet Kaur (1), India recovered and scored 117 runs in the final 10 overs, bringing their score to 31/3 during the Powerplay phase.
Jemimah emphasized her experience by smashing a 41-ball 63, which helped the Indian innings get back on track. In order to cause additional harm, she pursued Linsey Smith (0/37) and Em Arlott (1/43).
"Jemi deserves credit for maintaining such a good pace during her innings. We planned to take it deep after she advised me to stay at the wicket for a while longer. “Afterwards, Richa ended the innings well,” Amanjot said following the match.
With a 24-run victory over England in the first game of the five-match T20I series, India took a 2-0 lead. After missing the Trent Bridge match, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a comeback while Harleen Deol, who had scored 43 runs on 23 balls in the first game, was left out.
Amanjot is having fun rejoining the Indian squad. She was compelled to miss the domestic season and the T20 World Cup because of a back and hand injury she sustained in 2024. But she used her time in the Women's Premier League with Mumbai Indians to get selected for the Indian team.
Regarding her first T20 half-century and the all-rounder moniker, Amanjot stated, "It is the first of many. Although I am currently being referred to as an all-rounder, I would like to think that I am the purest of the bowlers and the purest of the batters. I want to accomplish it more for India.
In addition to nine fours, which Jemimah also hit, her innings also featured Richa Ghosh who remained undefeated at 32. Once again, England was unable to start a meaningful chase and only managed to reach 157/7. Although Amy Jones (32) and Sophie Ecclestone (35) made contributions, Tammy Beaumont's 54 runs at the top of the scoreboard weren't enough to prevent a 24-run loss.
