TMZ Sports has confirmed that Jimmie Ward, a Houston Texans safety and former first-round NFL draft pick, was detained early Thursday morning on a charge of domestic violence.

Jimmie Ward Charged With Family Member Assault

Jail records show that Ward was arrested this morning for assaulting a family member. He was arrested in Texas's Montgomery County. The charge, which is a third-degree felony, was filed by deputies soon after 5:30 a.m. Ward has not yet been given a bond.

The Texans said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle that they are "aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward" and "are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."

Regarding Jimmie Ward

Ward was chosen 30th overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2014, marking the beginning of his NFL career. Prior to the 2023 season, he signed with the Houston Texans after spending nine seasons with the club, where he had become an important member of their defense. Ward is currently in his third season with the Texans, but he has missed this spring as he recuperates from foot surgery.

Despite the setback, he started all 20 games he played over the course of the last two years and was a steady presence on the field.
