In a tense argument on day four at Lord's, Ben Stokes gave KL Rahul a taste of his own medicine, mirroring the drama that occurred between Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley the day before. Following nightwatchman Akash Deep's defense of a good length ball from Brydon Carse in the 17th over of India's second innings, tempers momentarily flared. Akash responded to the England pacer's few choice words for the hitter by motioning him over, extending an invitation for a face-to-face confrontation.

As events appeared to be turning worse, KL Rahul intervened, but it was Stokes who, in a surprising move, approached the batter with fake applause and targeted provocation directed directly at the Indian opener. With a similar motion, Gill had charged at Crawley at the end of Day 3, and Stokes appeared to relish the chance to turn the tables and tease Rahul this time.

Prior to the delivery, the play was momentarily interrupted when Akash Deep requested physio to apply a bandage to his right leg.

The delay was a reflection of England's strategy from the night before, and as expected, the crowd at the Lord's expressed their unhappiness by loudly booing, which resonated throughout the stands. India appeared to be in no hurry as the clock ticked away, using subtle tactics to gain time.

But the Indian managed to protect Rahul and stop any more wickets from falling. However, India would have liked Akash Deep to have come back without a loss, as the team will now start the last day of the 193-run chase with a fresh batter—probably Rishabh Pant—at the crease.

India receives early blows

India's pursuit of 193 got off to a shaky start when Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for a duck, once more taken by Jofra Archer's speed and bounce. KL Rahul and Karun Nair tried to stabilize the innings, forming a little partnership to see off the new ball.
