The third Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will see Team India back in action against England on Thursday, with the series tied at 1-1. The team won the second Test at Edgbaston by a massive 336 runs, solidifying their momentum as they head to the legendary Lord's, where the third match of the series will be held. Two players have been consistent throughout the first two games—the captain and vice-captain, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, respectively—even though India put on an all-around display in Birmingham.

In the first Test, Pant broke centuries in both innings, while Gill did the same in the second, including a double ton. Additionally, the two share a strong friendship when batting together, with Pant frequently offering the captain advice on the situation at the crease. Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of India, who was in charge when both players joined the team, shared an intriguing insight into Gill's appreciation of Pant. When the third Test of India's trip to Australia in 2020/21 in Sydney saw both sides tied at 1-1, Shastri shared a tale from the tour. Under tremendous strain, Rishabh Pant's counter-attacking innings helped India to a tie; Shastri, who remembered the knock, revealed Shubman Gill's remarks as the latter saw it from the changing room.

"The captain and vice-captain, these two men, are two peas in a pod." They have a deeper understanding of one another than anybody else. One day in Sydney stands out in my mind. Shubman is really laid back; he will watch (the game) if he wants to. He might nap or listen to music. However, if Rishabh Pant is batting, he is paying attention to every delivery, Shastri told Sky Sports Cricket.

"I asked him 'Why?' to which he replied, 'iska batting main kabhi nahi chhodta hu (I will never miss his batting)." The over's conclusion is at the end of the over's, even if I have to turn around the corner for a little while,” Shastri stated.

India concluded its innings at 334/5, guaranteeing a tie that kept the series alive, with Pant leading the way with 97 runs on 118 balls. In the end, the side prevailed in the series 2-1, with Pant once again delivering a key performance in the decisive Test at the Gabba, remaining undefeated on 89 to lead India to a 328-run chase.

The Lord's Test starts on Thursday.

Following an amazing victory at Edgbaston, both teams switched their attention to Lord's, with just three days separating the two matches. India's star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, is anticipated to make his return for the third Test after being rested at Edgbaston; Mohammed Siraj also put up an excellent performance in the first innings with a five-for, and Akash Deep, who took Bumrah's place, is expected to keep his place after taking 10 wickets.
