Ashwin Says Gill Speaks His Mind, Not Media-Trained: ‘Don’t Misinterpret His Words’

Shubman Gill's behavior at the news conference has left veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin quite taken aback, as he said that he is not attempting to perform but rather being himself. After a little hiccup at Headingley, Shubman just assumed the captaincy of the Test team from Rohit Sharma, and he then secured his first victory as captain at Edgbaston. The 25-year-old hasn't been too affected by the pressure of expectations placed on him as the new captain and the challenge of replacing Virat Kohli in the number 4 position.
Shubman has maintained a calm and calculated demeanor outside of the field, frequently answering journalists' questions with composure and grace at news briefings.
Gill maintained his composure during the press conference, which Ashwin applauded, and has also kept his true personality while leading the team.
"Shubman possesses a natural aptitude. After seeing his news conference, I quickly realized that he isn't acting. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin remarked that he is speaking in accordance with his personality. He is leading the team in accordance with his innate character and abilities.Ashwin brought up that the media frequently tries to target the captain in press encounters during international tours in an effort to lower the team's morale.
"When on foreign tours, the media attempts to target the captain since bringing him down makes it simple to bring the team down. If you target the captain, you may cause them to collapse like ninepins, he said.
On the other hand, the seasoned spinner stated that players are often taught how to deal with the media, but he doesn't think that this training applies to Gill, who communicates with sincerity and assurance.
Many players are taught what to say and do, so don't take it out of context. Shubman Gill doesn't seem to be in this situation. He seems to be a man who is acting in accordance with his convictions.

In England, Shubman silences detractors.
Prior to the start of the series, Shubman was under fire for his lackluster red-ball statistics abroad; however, he has silenced the criticism after only two games. With a calm 147 at Headingley in the first Test, Gill got the series off to a great start.
He tied the score in the second game at Edgbaston by blasting a fantastic 269 in the first innings, which was his first Test double hundred. With that score, he became the third Indian to score a Test double century in England and the first Indian captain to do so on English soil. With 161 runs, he continued his excellent play into the second innings.
