Rishabh Pant Reacts in Awe to Aiden Markram’s Lord’s Blitz Amid India’s Intra-Squad Game

Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter for India, was completely amazed when Aiden Markram, his teammate on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), wreaked havoc at the legendary Lord's, leading South Africa to a momentous victory in the World Test Championship. South Africa won the WTC mace for the first time in history by defeating Australia by five wickets, thanks to Markram's 136.

Pant monitored the action at Lord's, where his IPL teammate was playing, even if he was still carrying out his responsibilities in Kent, England, where India was currently playing an intra-squad game in preparation for a grueling five-match Test series against the Ben Stokes-led team, which began on June 20. Pant and Markram recently interacted in the dressing room during LSG's IPL 2025 campaign.

Pant congratulated South Africa on winning the tournament and praised Markram for his "great knock" in his tweet.

Pant posted, "Well done, Aiden brother." I'm thrilled for you; that was such a wonderful blow under pressure. Congratulations to South Africa on winning the WTC mace; you have made us all proud.

How did South Africa defeat Australia?

After five-wicket hauls from Kagiso Rabada and Australian captain Pat Cummins, 14 wickets fell on each of the first two days of the match, with the bowlers in charge. After the proceedings, Australia was in a desperate situation until the tail-enders, led by Mitchell Starc's determined half-century, assisted them in establishing a target of 282.

Having done it five times—three times against Australia—South Africa did have the experience of chasing 250-plus totals in Tests. However, the odds were against the Proteas because the site had seen two previous successful chases, the most recent of which was in 2004.

However, South Africa was able to overcome the odds thanks to Markram's heroics and captain Temba Bavuma's brave 66 despite a hamstring injury.

This marked South Africa's eighth consecutive victory in Test cricket, a run that aided them in recovering from the verge of extinction, reaching the final, and winning the WTC mace.

The Player of the Match was Markram.
