As he selected his India playing XI for the "tough" discussion about the seam-bowling all-rounder's position heading into the first Test match against England, which will begin on June 20 in Leeds, former India head coach Ravi Shastri spoke out on Tuesday.

Thakur supported Shardul Thakur over Nitish Reddy solely on his bowling while speaking on The ICC Review. Shastri, who selected his lineup for the first match at Headingley. Thakur also scored an unbroken 122 in the intra-squad match in Kent a few days ago.

"I would go with three fast bowlers, plus Shardul Thakur." It'll be a hard match between Shardul and Nitish Reddy, but you have to see who bowls how much. "The former India cricketer stated, "If Reddy is going to give you 12, 14 overs, then he might get the nod because of his batting."

Shastri supported Ravindra Jadeja over Kuldeep Yadav in the other selection quandary regarding the bowling attack, which centered on who would be the sole spinner. He supported the all-rounder for the batting lineup's seventh position.

He believed that the decision between Prasidh Krishna and left-armer Arshdeep Singh for the Pacers might be based on the weather.

"I would choose Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah as the three fast bowlers."

"If it's overcast and cloudy in Leeds, you might be tempted to go with the left-armer Ashdeep Singh as well. Prasad, Prasid Krishna or Arshdeep, but the other two are Bumrah and Siraj.

India arrived in Leeds on Wednesday after a rest day following the early end of the intra-squad game. After departing the camp earlier for personal reasons, current head coach Gautam Gambhir rejoined the group. India will be attempting to win their first Test series in England since 2007 under the leadership of Shubman Gill.
