Since NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke the news on Tuesday (June 10) that former Browns running back Nick Chubb has signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans, the team's depth chart has undergone a major change. "The former #Browns Pro Bowler agreed to terms over the weekend and is getting a 1-year, $2.5M deal that can be worth up to $5M," Rapoport posted on social media.

Houstan's well-stocked running back room now includes Nick Chubb.

Chubb is now listed as the fifth running back on the squad, behind Dare Ogunbowale, Woody Marks, Dameon Pierce, and Joe Mixon. In the past two offseason, the Texans have stolen him from a former starter for an AFC North club. He participated in the team's obligatory veteran minicamp on Tuesday, June 10, after being signed through free agency. Chubb amassed 332 rushing yards on 102 carries (3.3 yards per carry) and three rushing touchdowns throughout the 2024 season. He also caught five passes for 31 yards and one extra touchdown in the eight games he played.

After a season in which he rushed for 1,106 yards and 11 touchdowns on 245 attempts, the Cincinnati Bengals dealt Mixon last year. He was traded for a seventh-round selection and given a three-year, $27 million contract extension. Due to an ankle injury, Mixon missed weeks 3–5, but in the 14 contests he played, he gained an average of 4.1 yards per run.

Texans turn to newcomer for playmaking.

Pierce was the Texans' starting running back in 2022. In 220 attempts, he gained 939 yards and scored four touchdowns (4.3 yards per carry), but in Week 13, he sustained an ankle injury. After another ankle injury and a sluggish start to the following season, Devin Singletary was brought in as a replacement. When Mixon joined the scene last year, Pierce gave up his backup position.

Marks, the Texans' fourth-round selection after the 2025 NFL Draft, concluded 2024 with 321 receiving yards on 47 receptions. With 1,133 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, he had just finished off a career-high victory at USC.

Ogunbowale, who was a significant addition to the Texans' special teams squads, made a rare appearance last year when he started a game on offense and ran for 112 yards on 30 attempts (3.7 average yards per carry). The squad has given him a $1.8 million, one-year contract extension this offseason.
