Musheer Khan Disrespected? Kohli’s Comment Triggers Backlash

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the Punjab Kings by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Thursday at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, thanks to an outstanding all-around display. This brought RCB to the championship game for the fourth time in its history. Amidst this display, though, Virat Kohli, the star batsman, has been the subject of harsh criticism on social media for making an offensive remark about Musheer Khan, the young Punjab Kings batter, during the high-profile match.
As Musheer Khan strolled out to bat in the ninth over of the innings, Virat Kohli was seen attempting to get under the skin of the 20-year-old, who was playing his first game in the T20 tournament.
Kohli is seen engaging in a lively conversation with his teammate in a video that is currently popular. The previous India captain is seen chatting excitedly with his teammate from his position at the first slip.
On social media, fans are now asserting that Kohli called Musheer Khan a "water-boy" by saying, "Ye paani pilata hai." At the moment that Musheer Khan was getting ready to receive his first delivery, this occurred.
The incident has now drawn criticism online, with admirers denouncing Virat Kohli for treating a player in his debut IPL game unfairly.
Nonetheless, a few supporters are asserting that Virat Kohli did not offend Musheer Khan because all he was doing was talking about how the young PBKS batsman was delivering drinks earlier in the game. The Hindustan Times cannot independently confirm this statement.
It should be noted that Musheer Khan was used as an impact substitute in the game against RCB when the Punjab Kings' batting lineup fell apart like a house of cards. The strategic time out, which occurred after Marcus Stoinis was bowled out on the second ball of the ninth over, was followed by Musheer's middle start.
The right-handed hitter made his debut in the current IPL 2025.
Musheer Khan has been seen carrying the beverages about during the IPL 2025 season since he has not had the opportunity to play. The Mumbai batter was acquired by the Punjab Kings in the mega auction for INR 30 lakh.
Following the league stage encounter between PBKS and RCB earlier this season, Virat Kohli gave Musheer Khan a bat as a gift as well. Musheer had then expressed gratitude to the former India and RCB captain for giving him a bat. On Instagram, he wrote, "A million thanks for the bat, Virat Bhaiyya."
RCB thrash Punjab Kings in Mullanpur
In his first IPL game, Musheer Khan was out for a duck by Suyash Sharma in the ninth over of the innings, thus failing to make a lasting impression. He only lasted three pitches in the middle.
Punjab Kings were bowled out for 101 runs in less than 15 overs after being put into bat. Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma both grabbed three wickets. Additionally, Yash Dayal took two wickets upon his comeback.
With eight wickets remaining and 60 deliveries to spare, RCB then went after the target. Rajut Patidar and Phil Salt are still not out at 15 and 56, respectively.
This victory gave RCB their fourth final berth, their first since the 2016 campaign. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the IPL 2025 championship game will take place on June 3.
