Kohli, It's Time: Icon Urges His Comeback
4 months ago | 5 Views
A former legendary Indian World Cup-winning all-rounder has sent Virat Kohli an SOS, begging him to give up his retirement and return to Test cricket. Following India's close 22-run loss to England in the third Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lord's, the request is made. Despite announcing his retirement from Test cricket two months ago in May, Kohli has received several requests from former Indian cricketers to rethink his decision. The BCCI even attempted to persuade Kohli against quitting, but to no avail.
Kohli has now been asked again by the former all-rounder, who was also the head coach of the Indian cricket squad, as India are currently behind England 1-2 in the series. Shubman Gill, the current India captain, has effectively filled the void left by Kohli by smashing more than 500 runs in the series. However, this legend has made one last-ditch attempt to persuade Kohli after India was unable to chase down 193 in the last innings of the Test match at Lord's.
"Virat Kohli's love for Indian cricket was unparalleled. After retiring, I hope he returns to Test cricket. Returning is fine. He should return in the following series, if not in this one," Madan Lal told CricketPredicta.
"He should reverse his retirement in my opinion. because he has the ability to play for a year or two with ease. You are passing along your experience to the younger generation. You simply left it. It's still not too late. Come back, if you will.

The fact that Virat Kohli quit the Test still surprises me.
With 9230 runs in 123 games over 14 years, Kohli called it quits. The choice to give up tests, in particular, was unexpected given Kohli's passion for the format, but he will keep playing ODIs. He gave Test cricket a complete makeover, particularly in India. The days of average draws were over. India began to prioritize results under Kohli. Until and unless a larger picture was at stake, they would pursue anything. Kohli led India to a 2-1 victory in the 2018–19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, making him the first Indian captain to ever capture a Test series in Australia in 2018. Kohli's India gave England a run for its money in its home stadium in 2021, and the squad was ahead 2-1 until he took over as captain.
The reason for Kohli's retirement can only be explained by him. Kohli has not yet addressed the topic at length, even though he has referred to it as being five levels above IPL and jokingly swept it under the rug by claiming that he has to dye his beard once every four weeks. It's possible that Kohli will bring it up when he gets back in blues, but there are no promises. In terms of his comeback, Kohli will next play ODIs in October, when India visits Australia for a series of limited-overs matches. Following the cancellation of the August series against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka Cricket has sent the BCCI a letter outlining a tour proposal. Should that happen, Kohli would return sooner. If not, then October.
