"Kane Williamson Unveils His Picks for Cricket’s Next Fab Four: Two Indians Make the Cut"
5 months ago | 5 Views
In the world of cricket, this is a fascinating period. The celebrities from the previous fifteen years are losing their luster. Since New Zealand lost to PNG at the T20 World Cup last year, Kane Williamson has not participated in a T20I match, and Joe Root has given up playing in the format. Virat Kohli has quit Tests and T20Is, while Steve Smith has given up playing in ODIs. The Fabled Fab Four of world cricket will soon cease to exist, and we are now approaching the conclusion of that age. With the next generation of cricketers poised to take over, Smith, Williamson, Kohli, and Root are all in their mid-30s and have only a few more years to contribute.
Which leads us to the query: Who follows Kohli, Williamson, Root, and Smith? There must be a solution, surely. Is the next Fab Four of international cricket here? If we are to believe Williamson, then yes. In fact, the previous captain of New Zealand named four promising young players who may take his place and that of his countrymen in a few years. And guess what—two Indians made his list.
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Williamson named Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rachin Ravindra, and Harry Brook as the players that spring to mind when considering multiple formats, along with a fifth member. "And also, Cameron Green." They are all exceptional athletes who have had amazing moments in every format. Their games are only expanding and they are all young.

The Fab Four from the beginning
The Fab Four are an intriguing idea. With their prolific run-scoring, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid ruled the Test arena for a very long time, restricting it to the Indian cricket team. After that, Virender Sehwag, India's best Test opener after Sunil Gavaskar, joined the group, bringing the number of members to five. As the four most-powerful batsmen of their respective teams, Kohli, Smith, Williamson, and Root nevertheless established their legacies on their own over the course of around 15 years after their retirements, beginning in early 2012, making them the next Fab Four across teams. At the time, Australia had David Warner, India had Rohit Sharma, New Zealand had Tom Latham, and England had stars like Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow. However, Kohli, Williamson, Root, and Smith generated more buzz than anybody else.
Williamson was not the first to compile a list of the potential future Fab Four. Interestingly, Jaiswal, Brook, and Rachin were also there when former England captains Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain discussed the same subject in January of this year. Atherton selected Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis and Rachin instead of Travis Head and Saim Ayub of Pakistan, but Hussain chose Jaiswal, Brook, Australia's Travis Head, and Saim Ayub of Pakistan.
Jaiswal has had a fantastic beginning to his Test career, hitting a century in his debut and a record-breaking 700-plus run series against England at home. The young left-handed opener was one of the few bright spots for India Down Under last year, when the majority of the batters struggled in Australia. He ended up with 391 runs at an average of 43.44 after hitting a century in the sole Test match India won, which was in Perth.
