The ultimate US Open site, Oakmont Country Club, is demonstrating to be a tough test of talent and perseverance, with only a handful of players able to take advantage of the difficult circumstances. Sam Burns recorded a 5-under 65 in the second round of the tournament, giving him a 3-under par after 36 holes, one of the finest rounds of the year.

Interestingly, just two players have ever recorded better scores in a US Open round at Oakmont. Underdog Golf reports that Johnny Miller (63) was the first to accomplish this in 1973, followed by Loren Roberts (64) in 1974.

As a result, Burns becomes the tenth player to shoot 65, joining a small group of fellow professionals.
