James Anderson References Virat Kohli; Sachin Tendulkar Weighs In: 'It's Not Required to...'

The unparalleled James Anderson will be remembered in history as the only bowler who has had tremendous success against two of Indian cricket's all-time great batsmen throughout many generations. Despite their legendary status, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were susceptible to Anderson. In Tests, the legendary Tendulkar, the Master Blaster, was dismissed nine times by Anderson, which was the most times any bowler had ever gotten him out, surpassing Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath. Kohli, on the other hand, was outed seven times by Jimmy. That's a rather impressive résumé, Tendulkar and Kohli.
However, Anderson's bowling to these two titans came at very different points in their careers. By the time Anderson faced Tendulkar in the 2006 Test series in India, the latter had been playing for 17 years. However, Kohli and two other players at their peak were competing for bragging rights. In 2014, Anderson won the first round, but Kohli tied it up four years later, in 2018. Although neither team prevailed in the 2021/22 series, Anderson's two wickets against Kohli in a series where he scored two half-centuries would have to go to Anderson.
However, the much-awaited Anderson- Sachin Tendulkar Trophy, for which the five-match series will be contested, was finally unveiled on the eve of the opening match of the Test series between India and England, which will not include any of the three. While the ECB reaffirmed that the Pataudi Medal of Excellence will be awarded to the winning captain, continuing the Pataudi legacy, the two greats of the game, Tendulkar and Anderson, joined forces to unveil the new silverware that will be given to the winning team.

The interviewer and former England captain Michael Atherton prepared a list of questions as Anderson and Tendulkar discussed the meaning of the honor. Given that the Master Blaster was not someone who was easily intimidated, Anderson was questioned about his experience bowling to Tendulkar. In contrast to Kohli, Tendulkar has rarely ever lost his composure or struck up a conversation with the bowler throughout his career. Even if it was annoying to not get a response from Tendulkar, Anderson acknowledged that it's what distinguishes the geniuses from the rest.
"I did think that was annoying. I don't believe I've faced anybody who has played more than Sachin. He will be in this mindset, with his attention entirely on what he is doing and no regard for whether you are speaking to him; he will simply ignore you and concentrate on his task. Sometimes it's so annoying for me since Virat Kohli has been my opponent in recent India against England matches. He responds far more emotionally than you do. It's possible to read his mind, Anderson stated.
The majority of the 2010s saw Anderson and Kohli engage in their own conflicts. On the 2014 tour, Kohli was dismissed by Anderson five times, yet he was never able to take him out. When tempers got heated during the previous Test series in England, Kohli and Anderson had a rather well-known altercation. After Anderson ‘swore’ at the India captain, Kohli shouted at Jimmy from the non-striker’s end, “This isn’t your fu**ing backyard.”
Sachin Tendulkar responds.
Once Kohli was introduced to their discussion by Anderson, Tendulkar revealed his perspective, stating that he had little inclination to initiate discussions with the bowler. With the exception of the 2000 Nairobi match, of course, where Sachin verbally and physically assaulted Glenn McGrath.
"I would only react or argue when I felt it was necessary to divert the bowler's attention." However, I would not interrupt the bowler if I thought I was in a positive mood. However, I have occasionally initiated the conversation solely to throw the bowler off their game. Whether you are bowling or hitting, I believe that it is all about controlling the 22 yards, Tendulkar said.
