Iyer Addresses Potential India Captain Role After BCCI Nod

Despite debuting for India in 2017, Shreyas Iyer is still a mystery. The man possesses all the necessary qualities: talent, charm, and a positive outlook. But he is unlucky in one area. Anything beneficial that Iyer is meant to accomplish is always interrupted by something. In the 2023 World Cup, Iyer was India's marathon runner. You believed he would stay there indefinitely. However, he was demoted in the pecking order when he suffered a back injury and BCCI subsequently removed him from the Central Contracts. Even when he's made very few errors. Indeed, short balls appeared to be his downfall, but he has put a lot of effort into that area and now seems much more confident in dealing with them.
Shreyas Iyer has, nevertheless, once more emerged from the ashes, as usual. To the point that, according to a senior BCCI official, he has formally entered India's captaincy contest, posing a challenge to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as India's next captain in white-ball formats. With Rohit approaching 40 and Iyer close behind a very successful season with the Punjab Kings, Iyer might very well take over as India's next ODI captain. He guided Delhi Capitals to their first IPL final in 2020, then, four years later, led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third championship victory before bringing PBKS one step away from victory.
Iyer's style is such that he is expected to be included in India's T20I and Test lineup, and the leadership team has vowed to get even better once he does. Iyer is now the captain of the Mumbai T20 League, where he has immediately taken charge, guiding his team, the Sobo Mumbai Falcons, to the semi-finals. Iyer was forthright in discussing the significance of captaincy and its meaning to him, stating that he enjoys the challenge.
"It (captaincy) introduces a great deal of maturity and accountability. Because the captain is constantly called upon whenever the team encounters an obstacle or any sort of difficulty, you are always expected to perform and contribute in the best way you can for the team. Having served as captain since the age of 22, I believe I have a wealth of experience. I have both loved and accepted the moments. "I love the fact to come out and lead," Iyer remarked while the T20 Mumbai League was taking place.

"I tell myself over and over..."
Shreyas, 30, has joined Indian luminaries like Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav in the T20 Mumbai League, a well-known national franchise-based competition. Iyer stated that he excels under pressure, finding the drive to produce his best performances, and that he also enjoys playing alongside teammates from his childhood cricketing days, which brings a particular feeling of camaraderie to the competition.
"I simply try to focus on what's in front of me and enter my zone. I make an effort to concentrate as much as I can, live in the moment, and accept the circumstances since the audience can be really electric at times and transmit their energy to you. Therefore, in order to motivate myself in that way, I constantly repeat to myself that I want the crowd to shout my name, he explained.
"The dressing room has familiar faces, and I've played alongside a few of them in club cricket as well as in my school and college squads. I'm happy to be back here and play with my teammates.
