In the Gold Cup final against the USMNT, Raul Jimenez brought Mexico level before dedicating his goal to his deceased buddy and Liverpool player, Diogo Jota, on Sunday at the NRG Stadium. Before donning a Mexico jersey bearing the name and number of the Portugal player (#20), the 34-year-old replicated Jota's distinctive FIFA celebration.
Jimenez beat USMNT captain Tim Ream to a through ball from Gilberto Mora in the 27th minute of the Gold Cup final, leveling the score at 1-1 by hitting a shot off Ream's shin and into the net's roof. He honored their time at Wolves (2017–2020) by replicating Diogo Jota's famous video game controller motion, and he wore a jersey with Jota's number 20 on it before the game.
With a late goal, Edson Álvarez gave Mexico the lead.
“Diogo was a great friend… we shared so much at Wolves," he had stated. It was for him.

Earlier this week, 28-year-old Diogo Jota and 25-year-old Andre Silva, his brother, were killed in a vehicle accident in Zamora, Spain. Many of his former Wolves teammates, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Rúben Neves, expressed their condolences for the Liverpool and Portugal great.

Liverpool was represented by manager Arne Slot.
The day after playing for the Club World Cup in the United States, Portuguese international Rúben Neves acted as a pallbearer for Jota. He and Jota played together at Wolverhampton earlier in their careers.
